For Spectrum 2026 we performed our duo hoop act to Ghosts IV - 34 (Old Town Road) at Fugazi (perhaps the nicest venue I’ve ever performed in lighting-wise and rigging-wise).

We didn’t have a ton of notice* that we were accepted to do this act, so it was a bit of a challenge to schedule.

We were having trouble getting the act under 5'00" and cut a few moves (single-knee-to-knee for some reason had gotten more difficult despite being strong in the past; ankle-based sleeping beauty we cut since it was just not that impressive and a bit awkward). We conditioned elevators (I also did gym cross-training weighted rows) and the armpit-based front split as a regular part of warmup and these were consistently solid, and that felt very rewarding.

I was actually quite anxious about this performance due to knowing that we were sharing the stage with some pro performers.

Back balance
Above: back balance is something that needs to be tuned for the costume and doesn’t always feel the most stable. It worked well here. I like the asymmetry of this shot (though M. disagrees).

Actual execution was very solid. Maybe the last standing acro bit was a bit shaky, but almost every other point was nailed.

*5 weeks isn’t a lot for duo :0
